What the course covers
- Written pre-test. A DPS pre-exam on basic handgun regulations and laws, similar to your LTC/CHL test. Review the statutes in the Texas License to Carry a Handgun Laws (LTC-16). 90% is required to continue.
- Final written test. Based on the material covered during the classroom portion.
- Active-shooter simulations. Practical, force-on-force exercises with live role-players and marking munitions, built to be as close to reality as possible.
- LTC pre-qualification. DPS live-fire proficiency at 90% accuracy (225 of 250). Targets are provided. There is no second attempt during the course.
- Shooting under duress. Approximately 100 rounds at hostage targets — moving and shooting and emergency reloads, at distances from 3 to 50 yards. (DPS regulations limit advance disclosure of the course of fire.)
