New three-year cycle beginning September 1, 2026 — the first full ISD cycle with the HB 33 (§37.1087) facility security review required from day one. TxSSC has not yet published the reporting window; it has historically opened in the spring of the cycle's final year. Cycle bounds follow the statutory three-year pattern — confirm against the toolkit when TxSSC posts the new cycle.

Plan backward from the deadline
The reporting deadline is the last date in the sequence, not the first. Before it,
your district needs completed on-site work at every facility, the HB 33 security review
documented per facility, findings reviewed with leadership, and the TxSSC reporting tool
submitted. For a multi-campus district, that is a multi-month effort — the safest time to
engage an auditor is the beginning of the cycle, and the busiest time is the end.

What happens if we miss the reporting deadline?
Audit results are reported to the TxSSC through its reporting tool during the statutory window. TEA monitors district compliance with safety and security requirements, and unresolved noncompliance can escalate to TEA intervention. If your window is close, contact us — the on-site work must be complete before the cycle ends, and the calendar fills fastest in the final year.
When should we start the audit within our cycle?
Early. The audit covers every facility, and findings often need budget cycles to correct. Starting in the first or second year of the cycle lets the district fix issues and report a stronger posture — instead of documenting problems it has had no time to address.
When will the new ISD reporting window be announced?
The TxSSC publishes reporting windows through its audit toolkit; historically the window opens in the spring of a cycle’s final year. We update this page as soon as the 2026–2029 window is posted — and the smart move is to have your audit work finished long before it opens.
